NAU IVANOW

Nau Ivanow is a centre for performing arts residencies that provides artists with the resources they need to create and develop in freedom, without the need to follow a particular artistic line. The centre also promotes exchanges of ideas and partnerships among artist by enabling them to work in shared facilities.

The projects that Nau Ivanow promotes revolve around three key lines of action:

Creativity, covering all the stages in the creative process, from initial idea and development to culmination. Artists can come to Nau Ivanow at any moment in this process, using services at the centre for one or more stages.

Mentoring, to help artists to grow and raise their profile, in communion with audiences and other stakeholders. Nau Ivanow is firmly committed to the mobility of projects and to internationalisation: networking, cooperation and exchange are the future of artistic processes and art factories.

Territory, an open space where communities pursue their creative processes and where participation in the process establishes a direct dialogue with the artists, enabling all to grow. This interplay drives a process aimed at generating critical, cohesive societies.

Nau Ivanow is managed by Fundació Sagrera.

AIMS

  • To provide a space that is open to creativity and promotes the performing arts. An enabling, open-minded centre where artists can develop their projects and grow in their chosen professions.
  • To bring artistic creation to the local territory so that it participates in the creative process. A meeting place between artists and citizens, where culture is shared, with a view to forging audiences that are critical and involved in creative processes.
  • To train artists and provide them with tools to help them grow in their professional processes. A centre that works to ensure that artists find the tools and mentoring that they need to develop their projects.

HISTORY

Housed in the former Ivanow paint factory, Nau Ivanow was set up in 1998 as a multifunctional cultural centre open to the public. The driving force behind the project was photographer and architect Xavier Basiana, who also restored the building and fitted it out. It has since operated as a space for creating, producing and promoting contemporary culture. Right from the start, it has staged many different events: painting and photography exhibitions, theatre, film, shoots, videoart, concerts and talks. It is also a popular meeting point for different art collectives in the city.
