ATENEU POPULAR 9 BARRIS
A collective project housed in a public cultural centre where cultural and artistic action are designed to act as a tool for social change, managed transparently, autonomously and independently. In the field of art, it promotes creation and creators’ training from a noncommercial, socially committed perspective with the goal of supporting young creation and emerging cultures rooted firmly in quality and artistic excellence.
In the field of art, it promotes creation and creators’ training from a noncommercial, socially committed perspective with the goal of supporting young creation and emerging cultures rooted firmly in quality and artistic excellence. In a sociocultural context, it aims to promote social commitment and solidarity among citizens and foster a critical spirit by encouraging participation and boosting cooperation between organisations.
Ateneu Popular 9 Barris was set up thanks to the campaign launched in 1977 by Nou Barris residents to turn a former asphalt factory into the cultural centre it is today. Ateneu is now a benchmark cultural centre thanks to its programme of social action through culture and its promotion of circus and paratheatre arts.
